 Gerber daisy by Amy Murphy

March 2025 - Gerber daisy

About the Image(s)

I captured this Gerber daisy on a midsummer morning in my living room. The warm colors of the Gerber seemed to meld into the color of the floor flooded by early morning summer light.

Amy, I like how you captured this simple gerbera daisy against the warm, out-of-focus wooden floor in the background. However, the white blob on the left side is a bit distracting, and you might be able to crop it out. Also, you might try removing the sharp and distracting leaf to the left of the flower in Photoshop using the Remove Tool or at least darken it.   Posted: 03/05/2025 07:05:08

Amy, you have a great flower to shoot, and the lighting seems good to work with. To my eye I feel there's too many distractions in the image. On the left side the two other stems and the white object pulls my eye to that area. Also, much of the right side could be cropped off. You need to take advantage of a beautiful flower, make it a bigger image in the frame.   Posted: 03/05/2025 20:40:54

Thanks, the white vase is a real distraction to viewers.   Posted: 03/06/2025 15:23:05

Hi Amy,

I love that this beautiful light caught your attention and that you intentionally created this image to capture the flower. Most of the time, our eyes and brain process information differently from what the camera records, and that is the true challenge of photography.

I took the liberty of bringing it into Photoshop to experiment with a different crop and darkened some areas to emphasize the flower and the golden light. I hope you like it!

Hi Amy,
The warm lighting complements the lovely daisy. I agree with all the suggestions of the other members. Maria's edited version looks good. Continuing with Maria's version, I rotated the image to give another perspective.   Posted: 03/08/2025 12:32:50
