December 2024 - Sunflower

About the Image(s)

Took this photo next to window in the kitchen. Used my Sony R4. I used a tripod and natural light.
I used a lensbaby lens- I think it was the LB 56. ISO 100, SS 1/5. This lens does not record the F stop.
I think it was F.5 or F8.I adjusted the shadows and contrast in Lightroom.
In Photoshop, I removed blemishes and added a texture. I also did a Levels adjustment.

Lovely sunflower image. I like your perspective. Sunflowers have so much character. I might brighten the flower a bit to allow it to stand out more against the background. Love Lensbaby lenses and their images.   Posted: 12/10/2024 19:32:52

Thanks Barbara for your suggestion. I will brighten this image up.
I always have a Lensbaby in my camera bag.   Posted: 12/16/2024 03:03:20

The sunflower is nicely composed with the pointy green involucral bracts peeking from behind (I had to look up what those are called). The petals on the right seem to be a little out of focus, or maybe it's just my poor eyesight. I would suggest cloning out the sharp vertical lines on the left and right side of the background as they tend to pull the attention away from the flower.   Posted: 12/11/2024 23:53:03

Thank you David. I learn so much for your suggestions. I agree, the sharp vertical lines are distracting. They need to be cloned out. I was trying to get the petals closest to me in focus. I probably should have used a smaller aperture, maybe f16.   Posted: 12/16/2024 02:59:46

Like the composition and the background. Agree that the lines on both sides are a bit of a distraction. I enjoy the Lensbaby look.

Hi Diana,
Your sunflower is beautifully composed, and the addition of the texture is a lovely final touch, giving the image a more artistic feel.

I agree that the vertical lines of the texture are a bit distracting, and I would suggest playing with the luminosity of the image-lightening the flower and darkening the background, as David recommended.   Posted: 12/19/2024 12:31:03
