About the Image(s)

This image of a false dragonhead plant was taken at a local public garden this past month. I was trying out a new, old lens - the Meyer-Optik Gorlitz 100mm Trioplan II. This lens is a remake of the original 1930's lens noted for its soap-bubble bokeh when shot wide open. I captured this image to show its unusual effect. I adapted the lens to a Fuji X-S10 mirrorless camera. Exposure was 1/680 sec @ f/2.8 and ISO 800.

I know David likes the "soft" effects and it's interesting. However, I find myself looking at the bubbles more than the flowers. I like the colors - of course purple is my favorite - and the main flower(s) are nicely sharpened. For me, I like the bubbles around the center flower that draws my attention to it but the rest could be removed.   Posted: 09/08/2023 20:39:07

Hi David. this is definitely a unique capture and the bubble effect is really interesting and adds a dreamy feel to the image. I would probably darken the bokeh in the upper right corner since they draw the viewer's eye out of the frame, but overall I like it. It feels like there should be a fairly hovering over the middle bloom! Ingrid   Posted: 09/12/2023 14:22:54

I like the addition of the bubbles, but they need to be darkened so that they don't compete with the beautiful purple flowers...   Posted: 09/18/2023 15:47:13
