About the Image(s)
This is my "what is it" submission. I included the original to resolve the question.
I took this with my Sony A7RV; handheld with a 28 - 200 lens; f5.6; 1/500; iso 800. I probably could have obtained a better close up if I used my macro lens but I was taking bird pics and noticed this on the ground. It is not an amazing image but it has some interesting texture, color, and shape.

I enjoyed trying to figure out what this was, Dean. Back in my teacher days, I used to send students out of the class to take close ups of interesting objects, along with the zoomed out photo to disclose what the item was. This would have been a great photo to have had. I used this exercise to develop English skills and it was always a favorite activity.
I like the colors in your photograph; the white on the yellow. I had no idea of what it could have been until I looked at the original. I wonder if the photo were cropped to remove some of the dimmer areas on the left and bottom, if it would be a good edit? Being new to this group and examining photos so closely for the study group, I am not sure if that is a good suggestion. I did enjoy this "What Is It" submission.   Posted: 09/06/2023 16:14:49

Blair,
Your suggestion is appreciated. It sounds like you were (are?) a highly motivating English teacher.   Posted: 09/07/2023 19:33:54

I am currently, mostly retired, soon to be totally retired, I think. I seem to be having trouble making up my mind. I hope I was motivating - we certainly had tons of fun exploring when digital cameras and computers were available in the classroom. It was a great time to be there.   Posted: 09/26/2023 10:32:08
the world is a different place when you get right up close to it. Interesting subject. Lots of texture and well lit to highlight it. Kudos for noticing the world right at your feet.   Posted: 09/09/2023 19:20:36
Dean, it is tough to go from birds to macro! So much in the forest of interest. Actually, I like the original and the macro, but I never would have guessed what it was.   Posted: 09/09/2023 19:56:34

Very interesting shot, Dean. Good texture and color. You captured nice details on this unique plant. Great find. I am curious what is the plant?   Posted: 09/14/2023 08:58:12
Some type of mushroom - don't know the specific type but I wouldn't eat it.   Posted: 09/14/2023 09:58:09
Hi Dean, I attended a few workshops with Meredith Images where she teaches how you can overlay textures in Photoshop, change the layer mode, add blur, etc layer on an existing image to create depth and add interest to a photography. This shot would be great candidate. Their number 1 or 2 rule is to keep all your images you never know what you can do with them. Check-out her website below.
