About the Image(s)

I photographed this eagle in September this year during a safari to Yala National Park in Sri Lanka. The eagle was perched on a branch close to the road we were travelling. The time was around 6pm. The golden evening light is visible in the background.

Settings: aperture f/9, shutter speed 1/640 seconds, ISO-400, focal length: 150mm, metering mode: Spot metering

The original image was underexposed. So during the post processing I adjusted the exposure. I cropped the additional background which I thought was not needed for the image and to make the eagle more prominent. I also removed the noise in the image.

The final image and the original are both attached.

Ranmail,
That's a majestic bird. The strong backlighting caused the front of the bird to be underexposed but your adjustment in post helped bring out the detail.
I would suggest:
1) Crop in - too much space.
2) Open up the detail a bit (small bit) more.
3) Darken the background a bit
4) Use a light vignette
5) remove the branch

Ranmali, Great capture! I agree to cropping in on the bird more since it is the story. It's really difficult when you have a dull/gray sky. Lightroom now has the ability to mask the sky and add a tone to it. I think you did a great edit from the original. Bringing the subject in closer, I noticed a little bit of grain. You might try taking some of that our without smoothing out the feathers too much.   Posted: 10/11/2026 22:17:54

Nice capture. It's hard when you're presented with a scene and not a lot of time to do any adjustments on the camera. The feathers look a bit too blue, perhaps toning them down a bit might make it look more natural.   Posted: 10/13/2026 02:32:35
