About the Image(s)

This group of blossoms caught my eye on a walk this week. I was drawn to go back yesterday and take the image. It was an overcast day and taken on a gravel road. As I look at the image now, I probably should have lessened the dust on the lower leaves. In Photoshop, I cropped the image and used curves. Then I used selective color and the clone stamp to change the background to black, which I use often with flowers. Taken with a Canon EOS R5 mirrorless camera. The lens was a Canon 100mm macro. F5, 1/200, ISO 200, manual focus.

Nice capture, love how you blacked out the background.   Posted: 08/07/2026 17:32:49

Lee Ann,
The dark background definitely makes the yellow flower pop. I like the vertical symmetry of this natural shape with the strong central feature and the lifting of the viewer's eye from bottom to top.   Posted: 08/08/2026 14:14:29

Great minimal photo! I liked how you blacked out the background enough to make the yellow stand out, but left enough of the environment in the shadow.   Posted: 08/08/2026 14:45:41

Lee Ann, the black background definately helped it stand out. Striking colors.   Posted: 08/16/2026 16:30:47

Nice photo of the flowers Lee Ann. Great idea to make the background black. You could also do a close crop focusing on the yellow flower in the center to create a close-up.   Posted: 08/20/2026 12:36:48
