About the Image(s)

This was taken at Washoe Lake Nevada, June 24, 2026. I went there to photograph the Wild Horses, which I did, but these White Pelican's caught my eye and I started photographing them. The water was a lovely color and the water was very still so the reflections turned out great. I recently started getting into bird photography and find it both frustrating and satisfying.
Shot this with a Nikon D850, Nikkor 200-500mm lens, ISO 64, 1/250 of a second.

Karen,

Bird photography is definitely challenging, especially if you are trying to catch birds in flight or when the bird(s) are doing something interesting. The grouping of three (with the fourth hidden, I think) that you cropped is a natural grouping. I do like the reflection in the foreground. If this image is not to be submitted to a PSA nature contest/group, I would consider removing the geese since they are out of focus and don't add much to the image.   Posted: 07/06/2026 14:18:52

Good capture of the pelicans. If you can, I suggest that you take out the 4th pelican hiding its head. The three pelicans alone would make a stronger image. Keep having fun photographing birds. It is challenging, but sometimes rewarding.   Posted: 07/06/2026 14:44:28

Thank you for your suggestions. I went back into Lightroom and took out the blurry birds and the forth Pelican and it looks 100% better.   Posted: 07/06/2026 17:22:39

I went back for a second time and looked more closely to the photo and discovered I had another bird I need to take out. There were a total of 5 birds, how your eyes can play games with you. This is my final edit with this photo. I like it so much better.   Posted: 07/06/2026 17:47:23
