About the Image(s)

This photo was taken taken in April 2017 with CoolPix L830, f/5.7,
1/640 sec.. 50mm.
This was taken on a Beach near Santa Cruz, Ca. It was a very warm day for April. The picture
looks wavy and distorted because of the heat coming off the sand. Makes it look like a painting. I don’t remember what
editing I did with this, it’s been so long ago.
Looking back through my photos, I chose this one because it looks so painterly.

Wow, Karen, what a great picture. Does your CoolPix have a special filter that creates the wavey look? I didn't think heat could create that much of a wavy look. If it did, it's amazing, and yes it looks painterly.   Posted: 04/10/2026 03:01:35

Karen,
This is a lovely soft image. I particularly like the female standing on the right side looking toward the viewer. At first, I thought it had been post processed in Topaz, or similar, to give it that painted look. Catching the heat off the beach is a neat visual effect.   Posted: 04/14/2026 14:55:34

Karen,
It is hard to tell that this is a photo and not a painting, so it is clear what drew your eye to the scene. The cool tones seem a little incongruous with the shimmering heat waves and yet that is what you managed to capture, unless you adjusted the tone after the fact. The photo is a good reminder that softness can be as effective as sharpness in some contexts.   Posted: 04/18/2026 11:54:17
