Green Acres Nursery Macro by Anne Sandler

March 2025 - Green Acres Nursery Macro

About the Image(s)

Here's my March submission. It's a macro taken in May 2018 at the Green Acres Nursery. I found this when I was gathering images for my Lens Artists Challenge post. Green Acres is my go to place when I'm in need of macro therapy. At that time, I was using my Nikon and a Nikon macro lens. Green Acres as do some of the other nurseries in the area, allow photographers to come in and photograph their stock. I always mention them in my blog posts. Sometimes, we even buy something! This was shot before I got my Fugi camera.

Nikon D7100
Nikon 105 macro lens
105 mm
ISO 1600
Manual
F/7.1
Shutter 1/250

I've hardly used the Nikon since I bought the Fuji in 2020. I think the Fuji color is so much better. However, the Nikon is much easier to understand and use.

Anne,
I like it when you can capture these spherical drops of hanging water. The soft background and vibrant color are lovely. Nice work.   Posted: 03/04/2025 17:51:49

Anne,

Is this straight out of the camera or did you do some editing? You only submitted one picture. The water droplet is clearly meant to be the focus and draws the eye, but so do two other elements. I wonder if you considered cropping out some of the background? Right now there are two main foci- the two yellow stamens, one on the left with a droplet and a smaller one behind to the right, and then the one on the right with no droplet. The flower petal to the right of the second stamen also draws the eye to the end with its two light triangles. I do not know if your pixel count would allow you to crop fairly drastically or not. It seems you mean the droplet on the left to be the main focus, so I suggest you play with seeing how you can do that more effectively. The soft background and wonderful color really helps set of the droplet.t   Posted: 03/05/2025 20:03:02

Diana, This was edited in Lightroom. I tried to find the original, but couldn't. I truly don't know what happened to it, other than I accidentally deleted it from the file on my computer. I don't do much editing. I don't understand what you're saying about pixel count and cropping. Now that you mention the light triangles, I can see how they may be eye catching and could be removed.   Posted: 03/05/2025 23:00:01

I admire your attempt at macro and getting the water droplet ( like Dean, I love those shots). It's not easy...I try it a lot!
I agree with Diana's comment about cropping out some distractions and focusing on the main droplet. I would like to see it a bit sharper with the intention of selective focus against the soft background. The colors are lovely together and nicely saturated.   Posted: 03/08/2025 10:05:58
