About the Image(s)
This past weekend I went to Ikea to practice some ICM (intentional camera movement). I went there because it was raining. I thought the lighting would be muted enough for a long shutter. So I'd like some critiques on my photo. I'm still learning and find it fun to do ICM. Exposure: 1/2 sec.; F/10; 55mm; ISO 80

Anne,
Usually we try to avoid camera movement and blurring but with ICM the challenge is to find to best combination of movement and shutter speed. Your image allows for shape and form and lines to still be clearly present infused with lovely soft light. The result is a quite visually interesting abstract. You could enter it in a contest in the abstract category. I think submitting the original too would be helpful.   Posted: 12/01/2024 23:37:14

Thanks Dean. I'll avoid posting any ICM photos. Thanks for the critique. I appreciate it.   Posted: 12/02/2024 01:34:37

Anne,
I wasn't being critical. I like the image. Not sure why you would think otherwise.   Posted: 12/02/2024 03:47:49

Dean, I understood that you liked the image. I was just stating that I wouldn't post any more ICMs since that's not the group's practice. Actually, I'm glad you liked the picture. Not having any formal lesson on ICMs, your comment reinforced that I'm on the right track.   Posted: 12/02/2024 05:14:50

Anne,
This is a group where you can post pretty much whatever you want. So post what you are taking or want to take.   Posted: 12/02/2024 17:14:56

Anne,
I do like this photo. It is very warm and inviting. One thing I would say is that I hope you don't avoid posting different genres here. With the category being "general" I think it's appropriate. It also brings inspiration to try different things!
Nice photo!

Thanks Denny! Dean cleared that up for me. Who knows what I'll get into next. You can expect some zooming come Christmas lights time.   Posted: 12/02/2024 18:32:32

Anne, christmas lights while you are moving in a car (someone else driving) is a fun ICM to do. I LOVE doing ICM because it is the opposite of technical, and you never know what you will get. Keep doing it, and this photo is lovely. I do ICM on my phone, and that is how I did Christmas lights last year. This photo might also be a background for a composite image, of whatever you would want to add into the photo. Just another idea. I will keep posting ICM here because I like it.   Posted: 12/06/2024 02:10:58

Thanks Rita! I'll keep posting my ICMs. I do enjoy doing them. I think it's because I'm not a technical photographer, and as you say, this is the opposite!   Posted: 12/06/2024 02:51:23
