About the Image(s)

I have a glass vase which sits next to my stove top. The sun catches it for a short time each day and creates interesting shadow patterns on the wall behind. I have taken photos of it before, but I needed patterns as a background texture for another image I am creating - so shot it again with a different intention.

Camera settings selected were 1/250sec, f/6.3, ISO160, 240mm.

I had another look at it while I was processing it for textural purposes, and decided to have a play! I converted to black and white to focus more on the shapes and patterns. I cropped in and rotated 90 degrees - which gave an interesting result. I tidied many of the areas of reflected lights in the foreground - as I felt they were distracting, and darkened the foreground. I increased contrast and lightly sharpened the 'wing' shape. The result - a different take on a close up, I guess :)

An interesting abstract of lines and textures. I also like the green color.   Posted: 09/09/2023 15:02:28

Interesting patterns the way that the light plays on the glass vase. I hope that you were able to get the texture that you were wanting.   Posted: 09/13/2023 14:44:24

You created an interesting abstract image. I like your landscape format better than the original because I find moving across the image pleasing. My only suggestion would be to clone out the highlight in the lower right, or town it down.   Posted: 09/19/2023 11:16:35

Nice abstract, I like your move to monochrome. Reminds me of a mountain range. I know you're using this as a texture for another project but if it were a stand alone, maybe reducing that white background would help keep focus on the glass.   Posted: 09/20/2023 13:23:20

My compliments on thinking outside the box. Do you use the Live View or the viewfinder on your camera? The viewfinder works for me on macro shots better than the Live View screen. The glass is producing interesting patterns and turning the glass slightly may improve results. Also try flashlights and mirrors with bottles, jars and vases.   Posted: 09/27/2023 23:04:14
