About the Image(s)

Shot handheld with a Sony 7RV with a 70-200 in crop mode @ f8 1/320

The rain continues. We headed out to see a Komodo Dragon feeding at a local animal attraction. The feeding turned out to be not great for photography and the building was very hot. While I was outside trying to get some air, I did a couple of quick shots of the hosta outside the door and concentrating on the rain drops at the top of the curved leaf. I cropped most of the leaf to emphasize the raindrops and create a minimalist photo. The lighter yellow spot at the top right troubled me so I decided to for a low key photo and reduced the exposure in the back ground. I also tried to increase the exposure of the background but found it distracted from the raindrops so immediately disregarded that version.

It's often a nice surprise to find a different subject than what you thought you were going to shoot. Love the clarity and focus on the water drops. This is something I have never mastered. You did a great job capturing them. The soft green color of the Hosta is nice as well. I am wondering why you didn't crop closer to the subject making it more of a panorama. For me, the negative space at the top does not add to the photo. I just concentrate on the subject below. Technically well done.   Posted: 08/10/2026 16:05:38

Kia ora Donna - you've done a great job first seeing this, and then creating the final image. I love the detail in the raindrops.   Posted: 08/16/2026 22:08:59
