About the Image(s)

Shot handheld on a Sony A7RV with a 100mm Macro lens @ F10 1/320sec.

This was my first attempt at intentionally trying to get raindrops. The shot was taken at a distance from a sidewalk due to it being in a neighbors yard and then heavily cropped. The blooms closest to me did not have interesting raindrops since they weren't hanging or suspended. The patch of dianthus was very deep, which is where the more interesting dripping/hanging drops were located. I have also attached my first crop and the original. ISO was 800 so I used denoise and cropped. It was a good learning experience and harder than I expected. I hadn't realized how important the background behind the water drop would matter.

What I would change or do differently - walked back home to get my 70-200mm to get a more full frame. it got hot quickly and the raindrops disappeared faster than I realized.

I have never tried this and I think you nailed it! I would be thrilled if this were my image. I love the sharp water droplet reflection, the blurred background and the soft colors. Lovely. The only thing I would suggest is to crop in from the left to right past the lighter green blades of grass. I'm not sure your composition needs all that space to the left.   Posted: 07/02/2026 14:09:01

Wow! I agree with Cindy - you nailed it! Not only the main water droplet, but the entire centre stamen and its smaller droplets are all in focus. Also like Cindy, I would crop in from the left to remove the lighter green stalk. Well done :)   Posted: 07/13/2026 22:45:44
