July 2025 - Radiator Cap

About the Image(s)

This is not exactly a closeup, but I wanted to enter it to get suggestions on if it is okay as is, or if I should crop in on parts of the image. It was taken while on a trip down the Oregon Coast a few years ago, of an old Corvallis Fire Tanker that was with a group of old trucks on display. I liked the fading yellow paint with what looks like a purplish undercoat and maybe red paint under that, and also the very rusty name plate. The radiator cap with a separate door is very unique -- I don't think that I have ever seen one like that. After some research, it is a 1940's Autocar truck. Looking at another image I took of the whole truck, it looks like the engine was accessed from inside the truck and they wanted to be able to get to the radiator cap from outside.

I did use NIK Color Efex and the Wildlife preset to bring out more color and detail. It was taken with a Nikon Camera and 18-200mm lens at 56mm, 1/250th second, f13 and ISO 400.

I love old stuff. I think this composition is perfect. You captured the texture of the car nicely, and with the composition the varying textures are layered well. You have the smooth pipes on the grill and the rough decomposing paint. I love the color. Not sure what the original looked like, but I think a little enhancement on the color was a good thing.   Posted: 07/19/2025 12:41:09

Great photo! I love the texture and composition. The symmetrical presentation works well for this shot. Nicely captured.   Posted: 07/26/2025 01:45:51

Very nice I also like the composition and color scheme. Not sure what I would do to improve.   Posted: 07/28/2025 14:07:28
