January 2025 - Cosmos Flower

About the Image(s)

This was taken at an orchard in Southern Illinois this summer. They had a large field of zinnias and another of cosmos flowers. I liked the colors of this one, and I think that the upturned petal at the bottom adds to the image. Taken with my Olympus camera and 14-150mm lens at 52mm, 1/320th second, f8, and ISO 200.

Nice capture, Tom. I like how you have isolated the background, keeping the Cosmos the center of attention. Nice color and sharpness, and yeah, the curved petal is cool. You could probably crop in a little tighter and lose some of stem from bottom. May help keep the viewers eye centered on the bloom.   Posted: 01/15/2025 22:46:04

Lovely flower and the painterly blurred background is gorgeous in design and color. The background really sets off the flower and its color. You have handled the whites very well and the curve to the stem adds to your image. It's fine the way it is compositionally, however, I agree with Bob, that you could crop some off the bottom.   Posted: 01/17/2025 02:33:49
