Simon on the Shelf by Rusty Pinckney

July 2024 - Simon on the Shelf

About the Image(s)

This is my cat Simon who has since crossed the Rainbow Bridge. He was half-Siamese, thus his blue eyes. I captured him with my Canon Powershot SX10 IS camera while he was watching me from the bookshelf next to my desk at home. Post-edited with Photoshop elements to crop, remove distractions, and adjust the lighting. I wanted to frame him to show his Siamese heritage with his striking blue eyes and the contrast of the coloring of his face and legs with that on his chest.

He reminds me a lot of my last kitty boy, especially because of the blue eyes. He is showing some attitude as he studies you.   Posted: 07/18/2024 15:58:31

I love how this "half-frame" works so well. It is also nice that he looks straight into the camera, in such a relaxed way. The blue eyes is showing off really well.

Well done. The blue eyes with their unremitting stare tells me this is a serious cat. The execution is justs terrific--tack sharp good color saturation. A really fine pordrait   Posted: 07/24/2024 17:36:08

Thank you all for your comments. He was a special cat. He was serious and a thinker. He was not at all camera shy!   Posted: 07/24/2024 18:18:07

A beautiful and interesting picture that caught the eye from the first glance mainly because of the following:
- The cat's direct eye contact is very strong and conveys a feeling of immediate connection with the viewer. This creates a powerful and intriguing interaction.
- The blue of the eyes is very prominent and gives the image depth and beauty. This is an attractive and uncommon eye color in cats, which makes the photo more special.
- The cat's serious facial expression adds another layer of interest to the image. She invites the viewer to think about what is going through the cat's mind.   Posted: 07/25/2024 07:05:32
