Lock and Dam#11-Mississippi River by Dave Edwards

September 2023 - Lock and Dam#11-Mississippi River

About the Image(s)

How I took this photo - This is the Mississippi River Lock and Dam #11. This water equipment is close to Dubuque, Iowa. With very hot weather, boats were not on the water while I was there. This photo was taken from above, at the Eagle Point Park. It would be fun to comeback for photos when the boats are in the water and moving through the Lock and Dam #11 and others.

Avery interesting photo with nice lines. The point of view is interesting since the water seems to be from left to right, which feels like upstream when it obviously is not. That does get one's attention and hold the viewers interest.   Posted: 09/08/2023 15:31:29

This works well as a record shot and the explanation is very helpful in understanding what the image is all about.   Posted: 09/09/2023 07:51:23

I initially thought this was a drone shot! The high angle gives us a good look at the dam and lock. I'm wondering if a landscape orientation might have added more information to the scene. Perhaps it would not. This view uses a leading line to keep the viewer looking across the dam and to the other side. Good perspective.

Really compelling leading lines from the road to the dam, across the dam and then across the walkway. Eagle Point Park excellent name for where you captured this view as it's definitely a bird's eye view and bet lots of eagles nesting there as good fishing spot. Looking forward to photo with boats.   Posted: 09/16/2023 10:24:21

Nice Eagle eye view of the dam and lock. As others have said the lines lead the eye across the dam and up the road on the other side. It is nice that there is a park above the river to give you such a nice view point.   Posted: 09/16/2023 19:55:19
