About the Image(s)

The composite of the two images was done in PS after the individual images were processed in Snapseed. Wasn't sure how else to show what I was playing with. The lighting for this original (see small image) was dismal but since there was detail in the wings, I thought it might be worth a try. So that's the right-hand image where I tried to get all the detail possible. The left-hand image is a near silhouette. Which do you prefer?

I like your experiment. I come down on the side of the more detailed version, but others may choose the silhouette. This is one of those shots that could use the power of Photoshop to bring out more, but Snapseed did a pretty good job of it. Cropping out the vegetation on the lower right was a good choice in my opinion, plus it brought the focus to the bird.

Like Robert, I much prefer the image with detail. However, it is in effect a totally different take on the subject.
The silhouette version suggests prayer and not a bird to my eye. The combination of the two versions increases the interest of both. Nice study.   Posted: 08/03/2026 19:46:34

Good capture. I see hummingbirds quickly flit by but never get a chance to grab a shot. I prefer the detail image. Interestingly the profile resembled to me the back of the hummingbird as though it was facing away from the camera. Interesting perspectives on one photo.   Posted: 08/07/2026 15:12:46

I'm in step with the others as I like the one on the right where you can actually see some detail in the hummer. It would be interesting to work on the left one by totally darkening the bird and then making the background lighter. It may not work but something to play with.   Posted: 08/13/2026 23:44:54
