Eagle Store Soda Fountain by Pamela Hoaglund

December 2025 - Eagle Store Soda Fountain

About the Image(s)

Eagle store was established in West Yellowstone in 1908. In 1910 Sam Eagle bought the lease to the store and his descendants continue to operate the store. The building has been added onto over the years but the mahogany bar and soda fountain installed in 1910 were retained. This is one of the earliest soda fountains in the west. In the 1930’s Ida and Sam enhanced the fountain with a hardwood counter and decorated it with “pillow” tiles that still grace the front of the counter. It is still a thriving business in West Yellowstone at the corner of Yellowstone and Canyon streets.

Pam your image capture is right on and shows the Historic Soda Fountain. As a Boy,I used to go to a small drugstore that had a counter and seats to get a "Green River" soda. I like how you have this diagonal left to right with the visitors partaking of the goodies. Really an interesting place in West Yellowstone. I have been to West Yellowstone many times on a photo shoots and never saw this unique store. Jerry   Posted: 12/10/2025 15:46:55

Green River. I remember that, too. I think there was a dispenser bottle filled with the green liquid that we drew into the paper cone that was in a stainless holder, and may have added carbonated water to it. Maybe not. Maybe it was dispensed already carbonated. I don't have a clear memory of it, and I don't remember the flavor either. Faded memories.

This image probably brings memories to all of us "old timers." The colors, perspective and lines all work. My only nit to pick is the key-stoning most noticeable on the left. Is there a way to fix that?   Posted: 12/11/2025 18:26:53

Brings back memories of when I worked behind the soda fountain counter in the local drug store. That was many, many years ago as you may imagine. Nice shot of a nostalgic scene even though the prices are more modern. Thanks for the memories.

Love this photograph because so many interesting features to examine. I would definitely get an ice cream cone and a latte. Like the way the stool carries viewers eye into the photograph and then rewards them with lots to look at. Excellent composition.   Posted: 12/14/2025 21:10:17

This says "old" and it's great you could save that feeling in the image. Good angle on the stools and counter.   Posted: 12/18/2025 13:49:01
