July 2025 - My Forever Peony

About the Image(s)

Every year this beautiful group of Peony flowers spring out of the ground in all the wonderful color and size. They are very big and so heavy that I have to take a tomato basket to hold them up. They last for a few weeks and then start falling apart depending on the weather. Folks silky on the city street stop and take photo of this beautiful red flowers.

Lovely color and form. The frame helps too. Would a vignette help, especially with the lower right corner?   Posted: 07/05/2025 14:02:21

Dick, you correct. A vignette would help. Thanks.   Posted: 07/05/2025 18:51:23

The Peony is a great decorative plant. As you say, the blossoms are so heavy that they droop. Red is always a good color to photograph, and these blossoms fit that idea. I'm wondering if the camera's "portrait mode" might have worked to blur the background a little. I don't have a lot of experience with portrait mode, so I can't be sure. Nice colorful image.

Robert, I am sure that there are a few ways such as portrait mode. I really did not think too much about it. Thanks for suggesting. Jerry   Posted: 07/06/2025 20:58:48

Red can often be hard to photograph without blowing out the red. The phone camera did a great job. I agree that a vignette would help to put the focus more on the central blossom. It would also be fun to play with portrait mode in this situation.   Posted: 07/14/2025 01:02:19

That's an attention grabber! I wonder if the small flowers add or detracts? It would be great to blur or desaturate the background.   Posted: 07/14/2025 13:56:11
