Alpacas by Jerry Hug, APSA

March 2025 - Alpacas

About the Image(s)

Driving around in small country road that I have never visited, I had to stop at take a photo when I saw the Alpacas grazing in the grass. These animals are raised for their beautiful fur which is used for clothing. When I got out of the car to take the photo they did not even look up at me. Some people have them for pets. Jerry

Jerry this is a nice arrangement of grazing animals. It is interesting that you and Lynne have similar arrangements of elements including the bare tree on the left.
It took me a while to sort out the legs and feet and be sure that there wasn't a seventh alpaca hiding in the front group. Fun!   Posted: 03/05/2025 13:28:06

Freshly sheared, too! Usually, we see them when they have full fleece coats. Nice composition with the animals in the foreground and the wall of green behind them. The lack of shadows and the saturated colors suggest an overcast sky. It's a pastoral, peaceful scene. Nice.

What stopped my eye was the close cut fur. At first I wondered "what are those animals" so I think your image works on the Impact level. The arrangement of the animals might be better if you brushed out the ones in back leaving three.   Posted: 03/06/2025 12:42:52

A very pleasant country farm scene. I agree with Sol about eliminating the three partially hidden alpacas in the back. Having just the front three would make for a more pleasing composition.   Posted: 03/09/2025 19:49:06

Grazing alpacas make a serene scene. Green grass and leaves provide a consistent background. Never saw shaved alpacas before. They're either very chill about being shaved or avoiding all human contact fearing more fur loss. So interesting that not one glances at you or checks you out for food.   Posted: 03/12/2025 19:17:29
