Last Rose of Summer - How I Did It by Sol Blechman

February 2025 - Last Rose of Summer - How I Did It

About the Image(s)

Walking through some gardens I never expected to take a picture. It was November, I think, and very cold. Dropping, darkening some spots with the Brushing Snapseed and a touch of Ambience was all I had to do.

Walking through some gardens with a super result! You iPhone editing is outstanding. I love the reflections on the ice. This would be considered a Macro shot. There is a word and I am trying to remember it? When there is Beauty in imperfection. You sure brought out the Beauty. Jerry   Posted: 02/01/2025 15:50:35

Jerry, my typing must have been unusually lousy this month. Can the text on the Rose image be corrected? It should read "Cropping" not "Dropping". Also "Brush" not Brushing"

Thanks,

Everyone: MY typing errors.

It should be Cropping not Dropping, and Brush not Brushing.   Posted: 02/03/2025 19:23:26

What an interesting shot. The "spikes" of ice are fascinating.
Where was this that had ice in November?   Posted: 02/01/2025 20:27:44

Richard, we live in Southern Oregon and while this winter, so far, has not been that cold, we did have a spell of freezing temps.   Posted: 02/02/2025 16:52:45

The ice makes the shot very interesting. It is an unexpected scene since I don't associate rose flowers with icy cold.
Good use of depth of field, too. Nice capture.

I love the juxtaposition of the rose and ice. It's a very unique image and nature's way of saying goodbye to the Fall and beauty of the rose.   Posted: 02/05/2025 07:13:12

A great find and eye to capture the feeling of the rose trying to hang on despite the freezing temperatures adding the ice. My only suggestion would be to darken the areas to the left and under the rose. Those highlights tend to pull the eye away from your main subject the Rose.   Posted: 02/06/2025 00:45:02

Such an evocative sight as this rose tries to maintain its elegance and beauty while laden with ice. Good catch and composition.   Posted: 02/06/2025 16:30:58
