Woman with Umbrella by Lynne Royce

November 2024 - Woman with Umbrella

About the Image(s)

Took this photo on Halloween when temps at Jersey Shore ridiculous warm 85 degrees. Don't know if woman warding off sun or some spooky Halloween spirits. I was quite a distance away up on Long Branch Boardwalk. Brought subject closer by enlarging Samsung Android phone screen with fingers. Light editing in Snapseed.

It's wonderfully sharp and well exposed especially given the distance. You cropped the woman very close to the edge and maybe she could use a little more room? The way she is entering the image and looking at the surf make a strong image. Something about her raised foot adds a feeling of action.   Posted: 11/09/2024 13:12:00

I like the implied action of the surf as it goes from left to right and draws the woman's attention. Maybe the woman needs all that space in front of her to run away from the incoming wave.   Posted: 11/09/2024 21:40:48

This is a satisfying image for me. I like where you positioned the woman because it shows she is moving into and across the scene. Her raised foot adds to that, too. Her umbrella adds curiosity. I also like the splashing surf. It's all in motion, and you captured a single moment of it without losing the energy.

You gat a very tricky image. The woman with the umbrella makes this a very windy day an another outstanding image. By the way we have hearing on the news about fires burning on the Jersey Shore. Sure hope it is not near you or your family. Jerry   Posted: 11/11/2024 20:04:02

The lack of rain for over a month and nasty, prolonged fire on New Jersey/New York border unnerving. We may finally get some rain Wednesday night and Thursday. It can't come soon enough as NJ has put in water restrictions and it's sad seeing bushes and perennials drooping from lack of rain. Even my towering oak trees look thirsty.   Posted: 11/17/2024 21:51:21

I always love photos of the ocean and you did a very nice job capturing the dynamics of the waves. I wonder if you zoomed in on the woman and left some of the left side of the ocean off if that migh increase the tension created by the strong waves.   Posted: 11/12/2024 23:21:27

You capture some very interesting images at the sea shore. I really like the composition, the motion of the waves, the woman walking and seemingly watching the waves lest they get too close. The umbrella really adds a great point of interest. My only suggestion is I feel she needs a little more room behind her. To me it feels like she is about to be cut off.   Posted: 11/17/2024 20:09:59

Agree completely with your and others comments that the woman is to close to the edge of the photo. I have other photos of her better placed in the scene but not usable as the wind blew the umbrella so couldn't see her head. This the only photo, barely caught, where could capture all the ingredients. Thanks for composition complement as consider you an expert in that area.   Posted: 11/17/2024 21:14:16
