August 2022 ~ NYC Bling by Marge Barham

August 2022 - August 2022 ~ NYC Bling

About the Image(s)

I am still browsing around thru old photos and found this one. Walking around NYC with camera in hand this window display caught my attention. It's just for fun with all that is going on; bunny ears, head band, extremely long earrings then with lots of reflections coming from all over inside and from all over outside.
Straightened and cropped a little then sharpened. Taken with my old Canon Rebel Xsi at f5.6, 1/25 sec., ISO 200.

Marge do not feel bad, I'm doing exactly the same with my files, and every day I find images that I had forgot and that are quite nice. This photo has potential in my opinion, and you can improve it with some minor adjustments. I you have LR try to play with some of the Presets in the application, there are some that are really interesting. And it is fun to do that.   Posted: 08/03/2022 09:44:14

What fun to go back to older photos you might have forgotten or overlooked. I find that as I mature as a photographer, my tastes change but more importantly, my eye changes and old things look new again. Obviously your photographers eye was mature enough to pick up on this very interesting montage in a store window. (There's a title in there somewhere. LOL) I played with it a bit to my taste. I first added a little exposure and then brought down the highlights and added a heap of dehaze...all in Lightroom. I boosted saturation a bunch and then reduced vibrance a little. All this was to try to isolate each individual part. I then cooled the whole image. Overall, I was intrigued and challenged with your capture. I think you captured a bit of the New York state of mind. I also added a subtle vignette. Very nice.   Posted: 08/03/2022 10:32:55

Thank you for your version Kurtis.   Posted: 08/13/2022 19:08:17

I think that the contrast between the stoic statue and the woman in some sort of distress in the complex setting is very interesting and compelling. I cropped and converted to BW and flipped it horizontally to draw attention to this. Of course, that is just my take.   Posted: 08/04/2022 22:56:29

Art when you refer to the "stoic statue" and "the woman in some sort of distress" you are referring to the one mannequin correct?   Posted: 08/14/2022 16:12:18

For me, the statue is cool and aloof and the figure in front seems to be in distress and agitated. I like the contrast which for which, I think, BW works better. However, it is up to the artist to decide what is the correct treatment.   Posted: 08/16/2022 20:45:27

I think that Art might have a legittimate reason to convert the image to B&W, I think that the type of image is more suitable to color than B&W. Only that.   Posted: 08/14/2022 10:40:14

Gabriele, do you mean that the image is more suitable to color or to B&W?
Not sure what you mean.

color, Marge, I think that a shop window it might attract more attention than a B&W display.   Posted: 08/14/2022 16:14:29

I would agree Gabriele. It lost a lot of the BLING converted to B&W. I tried it and didn't like the results. Thanks for getting back to me.
