I shot this last year at the XIT reunion rodeo in Dalhart, Texas (where I
was born). I had arena privileges bet elected not to use them and shot from
the arena fence. The PRCA (Professional Rodeo Cowboy's Association)
photographer did the same. I shot using the Canon R5 paired with the Canon
EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 L @ 124mm, 1/800 sec., f/5.0, and ISO 5000. Processed
in Lightroom and Topaz Photo AI. Converted to sepia and cropped. I call if
"On the Fly".

I like the black and white treatment and the capture of the the action. I blurred the background and increased the contrast. Posted: 12/06/2024 03:04:26
Excellent action image. I like the B&W rendition and the composition. I'm not sure about the blurred background, I think that the original looks better, to me, because it gives some kind of tridimensional effect to the images that look good as a background. Kurtis , this is a great action shot. I agree with Art on blurring the background. This is exactly what i would do to enhance this picture. It allows to avoid distraction and to isolate the Action. I really like the connection with the Lasso and the triangle made with the all three subjects.
