About the Image(s)

SO=250; f=7.1; Shutter speed 800.
This pic was taken at Kolkata after our greatest festival Durgapuja.
All images made of clay, coloured and ornamented, are worshipped for 5 days. Then they are immersed in water bodies. According to Hinduism everything in this universe is temporary except GOD. We maintain our bodies with utmost care throughout our life. At the end of the life that body of flesh and blood ultimately gets decomposed and goes back to mother nature. The idols are designed andcreated by professional artists for more than 4 months. Then they are worshipped for 5 days. At the end they go back to earth and water. This is life .??™???™?

I think that this is a powerful documentary image that captures the intensity of the moment. I like how the composition takes the viewer from the lower left side to the upper right. For me, brightening the statues and adding a vignette could increase the impact.   Posted: 11/09/2024 05:21:39

I'm not familiar with Indian traditions/celebrations but when I see these images I can't resist the idea of a trip there. Excellent Sunandan.   Posted: 11/29/2024 11:56:49
