About the Image(s)

Tug Boat Knot

This was take recently on a trip to Eastern Wisconsin. This is the rope to the tug boat in Strugeon Bay harbor. I do like the rope leading into the image. This is a large rope being about 1 1/2 inch or so across. I used Hue and Saturation to make the rope lighter before converting to mono in Photoshop. In the conversion I made the red darker to bring out the rope. I also cropped off the light area on the top. And Stephen, the image is straight, the ship part is at an angle. It was taken with my Olympus camera with 14-150mm lens at 22mm, 1/160tn second, f8 and ISO 200.

Haha, you wrote a note just for me. Yes, I can see from the original that the image is straight.
Good job making the rope lighter.
I like the frayed section especially.
You may recall I am a rope and knot hobbyist. Do you have another shot showing the rope ends? I always like to see how the sailors have whipped their rope ends.   Posted: 07/02/2026 20:48:45

I know that you like ropes and knots, that is probably what drew me to take the image. No I do not have the rope ends. I was on the shore and could not get closer to the rope and tie down. Making the rope lighting in the color let me make it lighter when I converted to mono.   Posted: 07/02/2026 22:34:24

An interesting subject for black and white. You might try more contrast and add a bit of vignette.   Posted: 07/12/2026 15:40:49

A good representation of the rope - lots of detail and the background is dark enough to let it stand out well.   Posted: 07/13/2026 11:56:07
