“Big Wheels”
Although the entire steam locomotive is not shown, almost everybody should be able to recognize what it is. I found this in the Ogden Utah Railroad Museum at their Pioneer Station, all of which is in immaculate condition. I was impressed by the size and apparent power of these “Drive Wheels” and of their almost new appearance. I used Nik Silver Efex (More Silver) and Color Efex (Digital Extractor), then Nik’s Post Processing Sharpener: all to give the old iron a bit of shine. The Museum is at the foot of the famous “25th Street” and well worth a half day next time you’re in Northern Utah.

Yes, I particularly like your closeup view. I feel like I am a couple of inches from touching the machinery. It is all in such sharp focus.   Posted: 04/03/2026 20:40:07
Thanks. Just think about the difficulties building one of these rocket ships of yesteryear.   Posted: 04/03/2026 20:58:12
I like the approach, draws the viewer into the image and it feels like I am part of the image I am seeing.   Posted: 04/03/2026 23:38:52
Thanks.
I walked around and considered many angles/compositions, finally settlling on the wheels which to me overwhelmend all else.....and I didn't want "Just a photo of an engine."   Posted: 04/04/2026 01:07:53

I'd have been there with you taking the close-ups of the wheels and every other bit of the machines. They have obviously cleaned up the rust etc so everything looks shiny and new. I like the sharp focus at the foreground of the shot and the diagonal line you chose.   Posted: 04/06/2026 20:25:47
Good ideas.
I was shooting film as opposed to digital, so the cautionary thinking about the cost of processing was still embedded in my technique. I'm sure I missed a lot of nice shot opportunities as a result, but "that's the what it was in those days." thanks   Posted: 04/06/2026 23:15:08

Not much to add. I like it a lot, it has nice leading lines.   Posted: 04/07/2026 03:47:03

You have great depth of field and the image is sharp. The coupling rods leading us into the image is very good. I like the angle of the rails. It is good that you are showing all of the wheels. I would not change a thing.   Posted: 04/16/2026 20:36:54
Thanks.....
All the comments indicate that I should show this image. I will and if it does well, I'll let all know.
