About the Image(s)

f/16 1/250 second ISO-200 EV-1 16mm
Canon R100 with Sigma 16mm lens

This image was made yesterday from near the summit of Mount Sanitas outside of Boulder Colorado. I used this R100 for hiking and skiing because it’s the lightest interchangeable lens camera that Canon has ever made. It uses all my RF lens producing great image quality.
I used f/16 which is the smallest aperture my 16mm lens has to prevent damage to the sensor while taking a photo directly into the sun. In addition to Adobe Denoise and my usual post-processing I used Tony Keiper’s TK-9 Luminosity masking plug-in in photoshop to recover some of the shadows.
The final image was produced from the RAW file but the original image here is the JPG file direct from the camera. I shoot RAW+JPG.

The edited clouds are now spectacular and are a great background to the power line "pole." Good work on the shadows as you describe. Overall, a very nice image. It would do well in Cole Thompson's portfolio of power lines.   Posted: 12/01/2025 02:32:26

Yes, the shadow recovery is great. The entire image is superb.
If I can say anything, I like the darker clouds on the right of the original color version.   Posted: 12/10/2025 08:06:00

You do a really nice job of photographing into the sun. I am glad that your editing got rid of the light streak in the upper left and of course opening up the shadows. I agree with Stephen that I like the darker clouds on the right in the original. I did not like the tilt of the power pole and straighten it and used the generative fill to fill in the corner areas that were then lost.   Posted: 12/14/2025 17:56:37

I think I like the tilt reduced as in Tom's image. I'm not sure I like pictures of pylons although they are a feature of all landscapes worldwide. However, you've made a good image with this one with the sun directly behind it. Well done!   Posted: 12/17/2025 15:14:28
