About the Image(s)

Colorful Colorado: This is one of the iconic views of the Rocky Mountains in Colorado in their Fall color. It’s near Telluride, but not too close. Anyone can get this shot if:
It’s in the Autumn and the Aspen Trees are in full color:
It’s a clear morning, but with clouds;
If you get up and driving early;
If you get to the Divide early enough to set up;
And, obviously, if you know how to get there.

Post processing was with Nik software plus a little Contrast instead of “Sharpening”

When I first looked at this image, I thought it looked over-cooked but the more I looked at it the me the more I like it. I would fix the halos that are above the ridges in both the foreground and the background. Is this near Ridgeway, CO?   Posted: 07/06/2025 16:52:26

Going south from Grand Junction, to Montrose, to Ridgeway.....Right on target.   Posted: 07/06/2025 19:25:28

I have the same reaction as Ed. So I am looking and looking at it and yes, it is starting to grow on me also. Wonderful scene. I like it better in color for the separation of the trees.   Posted: 07/11/2025 11:17:03

Nice image with the fence as a lead in. Well composed with the mountains in the background and a good sky. I agree with Stephen that the color is better because of the trees.   Posted: 07/14/2025 20:25:40

Most people think of Aspin trees in the fall as with Yellow leaves, but once in a while an orange one sneaks in. They propagate via the roots so you will see a "bunch" of orange, not just one. Thanks   Posted: 07/14/2025 21:15:00

So interesting to learn about the propagation. I really like it when we learn about the subject matter as well as look at composition.   Posted: 07/19/2025 09:15:25

Thanks, Stephen. I think there is a story behind every good photo, whether it is about the image's subject(s) or the location.   Posted: 07/19/2025 15:37:31

It is quite a challenge to convert a fall foliage photo to monochrome. Your nice composition with the fence and background mountains helps here. The sky has a little too much contrast for me, particularly in the color version, a common issue with elevation and the sun's polarization. Would one of the neutral density filters in Nik possibly help that, or does it just add too much noise?
