Fountain
This image is out of my Turkish archives, but I have no idea anymore where it is. You can see that it is a working fountain. It might be at a cemetery. I surely shot it for the shadows and the pattern of shell-shaped basins. Too bad that I cut off the top. I must have been in a hurry. The pipe on the left diminished somewhat when I rotated the image 1.5 degrees to straighten it.

I like this one in color better. The problem is lighting and the time of day.   Posted: 07/07/2025 01:40:44
Thanks, it is always interesting to hear that someone likes the color better.   Posted: 07/14/2025 14:43:08
Nice idea to capture this as the pattern is very nice. I like the mono better than the color and it does seem sharper. Too bad that part of the top is missing, but I think that you would have a stronger image anyway, if you cropped off the top to where the triangle area ends. That would put more emphasis to the pattern and fountain area. You should get rid of the small white dots in the center right.   Posted: 07/12/2025 20:37:51
Tom, thanks for the thorough good suggestions.   Posted: 07/14/2025 14:43:30
The subject of this image doesn't really grab me. I have looked at it a few times and I really can't make any suggestions for it.   Posted: 07/13/2025 16:00:51
I was trying for diagonal shadows, but it was just a grab shot as I walked around a tourist site.   Posted: 07/14/2025 14:44:19
It's always intriguing how individual tastes differ. I will cast my vote for the monochrome version. I also agree with Tom about cropping out the triangle shaped part of the fountain. Do you ever try longer exposures with images like this? I realize that can be hard to do hand held, and the silky water effect is another issue where subjective tastes vary. I am uncertain whether it would have worked here or not, but if I have time, I usually try water with both faster and slower shutter speeds to see which I prefer later.

That's a good reminder to try fast and slow shutter speeds. I have seen discussions in various groups about that, but never applied it to my work. Thanks.   Posted: 07/28/2025 17:00:57
