About the Image(s)
This one is a candid from my morning ramblings in Kolkata. Candid image of this lady peeping through the "curtains" which are like the walls of her house, as she lives in a temporary tent like construction. The colour was a bit bland , so I converted it to mono. Cropped, left side pale curtain darkened by with a linear gradient and then burnt to remove the crumples. Pushed the contrast a lot on the face.

This image is fantastic. I like the square crop a lot. I have no suggestions for improving it.   Posted: 05/05/2025 18:43:54

Eyes, expression, great capture. And you made her hair so interesting with the increased contrast.   Posted: 05/06/2025 07:25:26
A great image and your crop is very good. The monochrome is much better than the color because the bright colors distract from the woman. I also like that you darkened the sides, but think that you have too much contrast in the woman's face.   Posted: 05/07/2025 18:59:51
Tom, I take your point, but on this one I wanted to show the effects of her "presumably" hard life on her face, so I think I will keep it.   Posted: 05/07/2025 23:57:04
I'm always impressed at your conversions to mono. The distracting white on the left and the pink flowery drape on the right now don't take away from the woman's face. I like the shading of darkness to the right but maybe the black on the left is too much. Brian always dislikes faces when they've become harshly wrinkled so that the skin looks a bit leathery but I think it works with this face.
The square crop is good but you probably need a keyline round the edges.   Posted: 05/07/2025 19:22:23

Thanks Diana, will add a keyline. I had to make the left conversion black, as the sheet was crumpled and I wanted to get rid of that, so that the eye went straight to the face with no distractions.

Could you just have blurred the left side? I agree that the crinkles in the fabric would not have been good, especially with the complicated fabric on the right. One area is Ok but not two, so probably you were right to make it black.   Posted: 05/08/2025 09:26:54
Well done. No suggestions.
