About the Image(s)

Rosenborg Castle

I enjoyed touring this 17th century castle during my trip to Copenhagen, Denmark last fall. However, photographing it was quite the challenge without an extra wide lens. Thus, I resorted to my Samsung Galaxy mobile phone, which creates long and narrow images. I started to crop this one a bit below the wall of the moat, but then decided I preferred it with more of the moat and plants left in the image. But maybe that was a bad idea? Would it have been better to crop some off the bottom? I'm also fighting with the contrast a bit. Do you think it needs more adjustment? Thanks!

I like that you included the moat. But I would have preferred a darker sky. See Tom's infrared image this month for a dramatic sky. Can you apply a post-processing red filter to get a darker sky?   Posted: 04/12/2025 05:28:20

Just an idea, since it is a largely still subject, if you were not carrying a wide lens, then you could have dealt with the situation by taking a few overlapping images. Now software like lightroom will merge them, and it works with handheld images.

As it stands, I like that you left the moat and the leaves in the foreground, but the composition is still too tight for my liking.   Posted: 04/13/2025 15:46:28

I agree with Somdutt that it is too tight in the frame. I haven't done handheld panoramas recently but I believe that Lr does work well with them. I use a mono pod for stability and I've always got it with me as it also acts as a walking stick. You know that I like a more contrasty sky, although I think the contrast on the building is pretty good. The moat looks good but I'd darken the right hand bottom corner down.   Posted: 04/13/2025 18:55:48

Sorry for the late response. I've been traveling and I came home sick. I may have had covid again as it was that bad. However I'm now on the mend.

I like how you have corrected the perspective to make the walls of the castle perpendicular (I'm assuming you did that. I think the sky is too bright for a BW image so I edited your image and increased the Dehaze to the max to create a more dramatic sky. What do you think?   Posted: 04/17/2025 20:02:25
