About the Image(s)

I am not sure about this. It was the best I could do when I found a large spider in their web out on our back deck. It was a keen moment for me, but the depth of field is poor with my equipment, and this is nothing like the nature shots in the other DD groups.

Yes, quite right. I will get ready next time and have at the subject again in the next few months. Taking this shot has piqued my interest in insects and spiders.   Posted: 04/16/2025 03:22:25

The problem is that the spider looks fine through the viewfinder but it isn't good when blown up later as it develops so much noise and shows up every tiny imperfection. Could you have used a tripod or something to rest the camera on? How close can you get with your camera and still focus? You haven't given any info on the settings -can you alter the ISO? Going down to as low as possible on the ISO would give the best result even if you had to change the shutter speed to give the greatest aperture possible. The spider probably wasn't going anywhere as long as you didn't put your shadow over it or breathed on it. Many critters are sensitive to carbondioxide so retreat if breathed on. As for me, I'm an arachnophobe so I would not have been anywhere near. To take this, I would need a telephoto lens!   Posted: 04/13/2025 19:01:42

Yes, I will try to be ready with a tripod next time, which I hope will be soon. I always shoot at ISO 100 if possible. Interesting what you explained about them being sensitive to CO2. Me, I am an arachnophile, and regard them as friends because they eat the insects.   Posted: 04/16/2025 03:25:11

Sorry for the late response. I've been traveling and I came home sick. I may have had covid again as it was that bad. However I'm now on the mend.

This photo reminds me of my pet black widow which I named Ivanka. This looks like a juvenile female black widow. I have a vast portfolio of Ivanka myself. This photo isn't quite clear enough for me. Do you have a macro lens?   Posted: 04/17/2025 20:09:26
