About the Image(s)

Game of Jacks

This image was taken a few years ago, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana at the PSA Council Gulf States convention. We had an outing to a restored old village with models. These young girls were playing a game of jacks and were enjoying the game, so not posing. It was taken on slide film, so I don't have any camera data. I did use Topaz Photo AI to sharpen the
image and bring out detail in the girl's faces. I am including the color after Photo AI and the monochrome converted with NIK Silver Efex.

This has worked well and I'm sure will get acceptances in Internationals. Have you thought about cropping at the bottom to remove the edges of the planks? They are clearly unaware of the camera pointing at them which is why it works.   Posted: 01/05/2025 15:34:21

Tom, I rather like the colour version on this one.

Perfect shot. For me, you can go either way on removing the edges of the planks, but I prefer to see the edges, to bound and frame the image and the situation.   Posted: 01/06/2025 01:20:35

You're the master, Tom, of the Midwestern scenes. I, too, can go either way with the board ends. If you think they detract from the kiddos, then crop.
Since it is obviously not staged, you might try to enter it into PhotoJournalism.   Posted: 01/09/2025 22:13:34
