July 2024 - Castle

About the Image(s)

Having just returned from a trip to France, this is a little sample of some image taken while there. Staying at the 12th century Chateau Marouatte located in the Dordogne region of south west France. Actually, having a room in the castle with period decor was a thrill with tons of photo ops along the way. This image was shot with a CS camera, 18-400 lens, F10, 1/160, ISO 200. In post camera processing, I straightened slightly, added a BW adjustment layer in PS, darkened the sky a touch, added a slight vignette and a 3px grey stroke and called it done.

Ella - A fine architectural image of the castle which has good balance. Good detail in the stone work and the sky compliments the castle perfectly, even down to the position of the clouds. Maybe the driveway is a little too bright?
I look forward to seeing more images from your trip.   Posted: 07/11/2024 09:52:18

Ella, I am expecting the jousting tournament to start any minute. Nice image. Great textures and exposure throughout. Detail even in the area within the entrances, whatever they are called. Very pleasing range of contrasts. The sky adds a lot. I can feel the sunlight.   Posted: 07/11/2024 22:02:49

Ella, your photo captures the grandeur and historical significance of the castle, and the driveway creates a nice leading line into the picture.

To my eye, the perspective could be adjusted a little bit. The tower on the right seems to lean into the photo. Of course it could be the tower itself. I know my favorite lighthouse leans and that's the way old buildings can be.   Posted: 07/16/2024 00:18:09
