About the Image(s)
Back to school usually happens in September this still life taken with a FF camera, F 6.3, ISO 200, shutter 1.3 sec. on a tripod of course. I used ambient light - no flash. The image was converted to BW using NIK, then sharpened, cropped, a vignette added, a 3 px grey stroke, and called it done.

Elle,
Another great still life. The stroke around the image helps to keep the viewers eye within the frame of the picture. I would have enjoyed seeing the entire horse's head if there was more to see. Susan   Posted: 09/05/2023 14:27:28

Ella, you have developed an unique style and an exceptional ability to produce these excellent still lifes. You should consider publishing as folio of some of your better images. This particular image is not my favorite as the area to the left side of the image is empty of detail and seems unbalanced. Also, by your standards, the glass's rims seem a bit blown out.   Posted: 09/08/2023 20:04:15
Ella - I amire your ability to create some stunning still life images and your control of the lighting is beyond reproach.
This particular image does not strike the mark for me - I find the cut off of the horse on the left disturbing and being in line with the books seems to unbalance the image.
You can't win them all - I look forward to your next image!   Posted: 09/09/2023 04:52:35

Thanks to all for your comments and feedback. This image got BOS in a recent interclub competition... which only goes to show ... as with all images... it all depends on the viewer - what counts is what the maker likes and thinks. Thanks again   Posted: 09/09/2023 06:54:03

Ella,
I agree that it is all depends on the viewer. Susan   Posted: 09/17/2023 17:41:49

Hi Ella
Your creative ingenuity knows no bounds, the lighting on the folds of the back cloth is outstanding and beautifully balanced, the left side has come in for some debate the sweep of the cloth upper right takes the eye to and through the subject to the folds bottom left yes upper left has little interest but the eye is drawn diagonally through the picture and takes all the subject matter in it works so well for me.   Posted: 09/13/2023 15:27:02

Hello Ella. I admire your creativity and skill with still life images. The lighting on the end of the books magnifies the detail. I am reminded of my grandmother who liked to use the phrase, "horse feathers". A very creative collection of elements. Also, I really like the lighting on the rims of the glasses.   Posted: 09/17/2023 14:06:10
