Time got away from me this month, and before I realized it, another image was due. For this month's submission, I decided to go back to Rhyolite, the ghost town near Death Valley.
Our group still has its core members, but it is great to see some new names sharing new and different images

What a curious sign. And I thought we aussies did some strange things. I imagine some people would comment on those power lines, but in this case, they provide a great line leading to the power poles, which then lead us a little further into the image. Good tonal range with good sharpness where needed.

Like Ian C, I too was intrigued by the sign. I am heading to Death Valley for the first time (for photography). I will be sure to make a stop at this town. My one suggestions would be to remove the power lines and darken the light rock in the foreground. Susan Posted: 08/09/2026 20:25:48

Ian: Thank you for appreciating my "interesting" capture. This is part of the Rhyolite Ghost town and back in the 60's & 70's hippies & others that appreciated different expression used an area of this town to make their artistic statements. My translation of the sign is "keep going". I left the power lines & poles in place as leading lines. This is exactly the way the sign looked background blemishes and all. Hi! I looked at the photo and even had to turn to Google to figure out where this place is. The sign looks very lonely against the backdrop of the desert. However, the monochrome adds a touch of uniqueness to it. Posted: 08/23/2026 14:35:26
