Processed in Affinity 2 with Nik 7 Silver Efex.

Just to the left of this image is a railway line which originated as a horse drawn waggonway in the 18th century.
Recently a passenger service was started which was the first since 1964. The first passenger service started in 1841.
A waggonway ran through this actual site but that closed in about 1856.
I had been making images here for a theme for my club and on heading foe home I spotted this scene and snapped it with my little Sony compact.

A very atmospheric image,it says desolation and isolation to me love the reflection of the tree in the water,being backlit adds to the atmosphere to me, I might just open up the shadows or blacks ever so slightly. Posted: 08/05/2026 11:01:54

A good strong image John. As Ian says, it appears that you were shooting into the sun somewhat, as the scene is very contrasty. Ian is quite right, opening up the shadows might improve this one. It's just a small matter, but I must ask, is that remnant of a possible sign on the right hand edge necessary? I would just crop that edge a little to get rid of it. As I said, only a small matter. My two colleagues have both given recommendations that I would have included. I like tthe way the lighter sand (reflection) draws the viewed eye through the image. I might decrease the exposure on the area about a 1/3 of the way from R top. I assume it is a reflection as well but it has the effect of taking your eye off the page. Hi John: An interesting image with a nice leading line of the lighter water's edge. I agree with the other comments and believe a tighter crop would remove the sign on the right and some of the foreground. Your image is sharp and nicely composed as well. Posted: 08/15/2026 10:34:12
