About the Image(s)

Image made 290526 at Blyth in Northumberland

Sony A68 55-200mm zoom at 110mm 1/200 f8

In Blyth looking for images including on the theme of Shapes, I spotted this.
Items on the quayside, the bow of a ship and the silos which were constructed to supply the now defunct Alcan Smelter made an intriguing subject.
I have photographed the silos several times but the ship added so much interest to the image.

Processed in Affinity 2 with Nik 7 Viveza and Silver Efex..

As you know John I love looking at the bigger picture and trying to see patterns and shapes within a section of it,well you have so done that in this fabulous image there are so many shapes, angles and patterns its fabulous in my eyes, for 22 years I was a marine cargo superintendent specialising in the loading and discharging of grain cargoes all over the U.K. so I am also so at home working alongside dockside silos, from the bow of the ship through to the elevators, elevator tower and silo everything just flows love it John.
John I hope you do not mind I just tweeked it a little bit I took down the hihlights slightly, opened up the shadows gave it a touch of contrast and levelled it fractionally.   Posted: 07/02/2026 14:16:56

So many things for our eyes to wander around and see John. Your composition, processing and presentation are all very good, but I do agree with Ian, his slight tweaks do bring just a touch more detail into the items in the top half of this image.   Posted: 07/04/2026 04:46:48

John: It amazes me that you see what most of us would just walk by. I love the shapes and especially the fish on the bow of the ship which emphasizes contextual space. Your image, to my eye is good, but adding slight tweaks as Ian suggested would make it better.   Posted: 07/04/2026 14:30:41
