About the Image(s)

This month I’m back to still life. This little bicycle measures 11 X 6 inches. A FF camera with 24-104 lens @ 85mm, F 4, ISO 100, 32 sec. exposure. The trick is the lighting of this image. Actually, I took two images. The first image was shot with the settings mentioned and my room shutters open half way. Before taking the next image, I taped the bike to the surface so that it would not move. Then, I closed the room shutters to approximately 1/8 open & got my light cable wrapped it around the bike, hit the camera record button on the camera (exact same settings as 1st image) then pulled the light cable. This took a few trial shots to get what looked good to my eye. In post, I overlayed the images, made sure they were in register, then erased what I did not want. And Voi la this is the end result.

This is a striking image Ella and a great piece of still life photography. Simple in the use of elements, but very effective. Your methodology is not that simple, just the elements you chose to use in your image. And of course, the reflection works very well.   Posted: 07/04/2026 04:27:13

Hi Ella
Your imagination knows no bounds and your ability to take your imagination from idea to reality even more impressive.
Could I be cheeky and say this is still life in motion ?
As always with you still life images its top drawer the lighting on the bike is perfect and gives a depth to the framework.
I am excited to find out what you do next.
So well done Ella.   Posted: 07/04/2026 13:55:20
