About the Image(s)
An older image this month, discovered when trawling through my files.
Image made June 10th 2023 on a walk near home looking for flower images, hence the macro lens.
I had previously missed this image for mono as it was listed in my index as ‘Backworth Flora’
Sony A900 ISO200 Minolta 100mm macro lens 1/250 f11.
In Affinity Photo 2 levels adjusted.
In Nik 7 Silver Efex, High Structure Harsh preset applied.

Hi John,
I like the raw, rustic vibe the photo projects! What's really nice is how the light hits the fibers, it's like you can almost feel how scratchy and brittle they are.
I might have darkened the edges a little to draw you more to the center and I think the rope has lost some detail due to the blown-out highlights. But since you've used a High Structure Harsh preset, that may be your intent. Overall, an interesting capture.

Michael, thanks
I agree that the highlights need some work.   Posted: 07/18/2025 07:58:25

Hi John: You have the best eye for spotting interesting things that most of us would walk right by. Since the rope improvised gate closer is the subject, if this were my image, I might consider cropping a bit from the left-hand side & perhaps even consider a slight vignette & finally a 2-3-pixel stroke. Technically well done. A very interesting image again.   Posted: 07/11/2025 16:49:10
Ella, thanks
I shall have a look at your crop suggestion   Posted: 07/18/2025 07:59:29

Hi John
Your eye worked again love the way the light has highlighted not just the rope but fraying fibres which tell a story as Ella said a crop my focus the eye even more I might be even more radical and suggest cropping from both sides and creating a portrait crop.   Posted: 07/13/2025 12:30:57

John,
You always find such interesting images. My eye is immediately drawn my the string into the image. Very appropriate title. I might see how image looks without the most of the building on the left. Square format may be a good option. Susan   Posted: 07/13/2025 22:17:35

Susan, a crop may improve the image. I shall look at that   Posted: 07/18/2025 08:00:43
John - you have the ability to turn the most mundane objects into a work of art and make meaningful images from scenarios most other photographers would walk past.
The rope or string is the star of the image and contrasts texturally and connects with the two vertical fence posts. The muted background allows the main elements to stand out.
The highlight on the lower cross member at the base of the image is a little distracting - I would clone/crop it out. I would also apply a 1-2 pixel white stroke to separate the image from the screen background.

Peter, I shall look at a stroke.
