Vik Church and Sea Stacks by Peter Clark, APSA, GMPSA, EFIAP/p, FRPS

July 2025 - Vik Church and Sea Stacks

About the Image(s)

The steeple of the white church at Vik, south Iceland mirroring the shape of the iconic sea stacks.
Captured on a gloomy day in February 2016 using a Panasonic GX7 fitted with the Lumix 35-100 f2.8 lens set at 100mm (35mm equivalent 200mm), 1/1000 sec, f11, ISO 400.

Initially processed in colour in CS6 and converted to monochrome in SEP 2 and further processed following my normal workflow. Finessed in Topaz DeNoise AI and sharpened using the High Pass filter in Overlay mode and sharpening halos removed where necessary.

Hello Peter,

One of my two favorite places to visit - Iceland and Utah. I've seen a lot of photos of the Vik Myrdal Chruch with the sea stacks in the background but never from this angle. I like how the church spire and the sea stacks mimic each other creating a strong, layered composition. I can even see the birds flying around the sea stacks! Love it!   Posted: 07/11/2025 16:02:55

Hi Peter: I love Iceland and love your image. Really nice combination of the church steeple and the sea stacks. There are myriad birds flying about which are visible throughout your image. Very nice image again.   Posted: 07/11/2025 16:40:50

Peter,
I love the repeating them on the triangles. It is only after I saw comments of others (which I don't like to review until I have posted), that I saw the birds. The image does look a bit noisy on my screen. Might suggest a noise reduction application. Otherwise overall A+.
We have many sea states in Oregon and I love to shoot them. Susan   Posted: 07/13/2025 22:23:18

Hi Peter
Your compositions are always so carefully thought out its a trademark of your work but this is something else to have seen this is something but to have been able to get the shot is something else as always beautifully balanced its brilliant.   Posted: 07/15/2025 19:30:52

Peter, I have seen quite a few images of this church but this version is quite different.
The stacks repeating the church is impressive.   Posted: 07/18/2025 08:03:25
