About the Image(s)
Another image from White Pocket in the Vermillion Cliffs area of Arizona focussing on the amazing sandstone swirls bounded by outcrops of brain rock as shown in last month’s image.
Captured on my first visit to White Pocket in June 2011 using a Canon EOS 5D Mark II fitted with the Canon 24-105mm lens, 1/80 sec, f 16, ISO 100.
Initially processed in colour in CS6 and converted to monochrome in SEP 2 and further processed following my normal workflow. The bland blue sky was replaced by a more appropriate one. Finessed in Topaz DeNoise AI and sharpened using the High Pass filter in Overlay mode and sharpening halos removed where necessary.

Well named image. Interesting swirls the lead you eye around the image. I wonder if increasing the black point in the image would give it more definition. Not sure how I would use you image to try that approach.
As for the sky, I might suggest cropping it a bit. I would go down to just above the high peak on the left. I find the lightness of the clouds at the top draw my eyes out of the image. Susan   Posted: 05/09/2025 21:15:31
