About the Image(s)
Our Lady of the Braes church at Polnish is set on a hilltop in the Highlands of Scotland overlooking Loch Ailort and was built in 1872. It is no longer in use and in 2023 was sold for conversion into a home.
A lucky capture during a visit in November 2006 in that the weather was typically Scottish and the sun appeared for only a few seconds, lighting up the church with just enough time to fire off a couple of shots.
Captured on a Canon EOS 5D fitted with the 24-105mm f4 IS lens set at 67mm, 1/5 sec at f11, ISO 100, hand held with IS. Initially processed in colour in CS 6 and converted to monochrome in SEP 2 and further processed following my normal workflow. Finessed in Topaz DeNoise AI and sharpened using the High Pass filter in Soft Light mode and sharpening halos removed where necessary.

The rugged landscape, the weather and the little solid church standing alone. I love the contrasting diagonals.   Posted: 02/12/2025 10:07:44
Rough terrain, weathered walls and stormy skies, what more could you ask for? Great image, I bet you were excited to see the light break out. Sometimes we need a little luck to be in the right place at the right time.   Posted: 02/16/2025 13:44:39
