About the Image(s)
Looking back through some scanned moo negatives I happened upon this image which intrigued me.
I could not recall where this image was made and I was quite surprised to discover the answer was Barcelona.
The image was made October 6th, 1999 apparently in the port.
Ilford FP4 Minolta 500SI no details recorded.
Scanned in 2021. Processed in Affinity Photo 2, Dfine2 and SEP2.

John,
I love how peaceful this shot feels with the single bird floating on the water. The B&W look really makes the bird stand out against the interesting patterns in the water. My eyes naturally follow the lines from the top down to the bird, which creates a calm but engaging effect. Maybe cropping in a bit closer or moving the bird off-center could make the movement even stronger and emphasize the textures in the water. But still, it's a beautifully simple and balanced photo.   Posted: 11/06/2024 16:51:04

Hi John: To my eye, the reflection is a great leading line and looking from bottom up or top-down leads right to the bird. My only thought is that your crop appears to be a bit tight and might benefit from a bit more horizontal landscape - water reflections.   Posted: 11/08/2024 13:42:19

John - an interesting abstract image brought to life by the inclusion of the bird. I feel that the image would be strengthened by a crop from the top leaving the bird on the upper third. Great tonality in the water and the reflection - very well seen image.   Posted: 11/10/2024 10:56:22

Peter, I shall have a play with your crop idea.   Posted: 11/16/2024 07:13:12

Hi John
Your eye has come up trumps again I love the patterns created in the darker area, the contrast in the water is wonderful and works so well, the gull really makes the picture like the others I wonder if a slight crop putting the bird on a third might be the final touch,   Posted: 11/10/2024 16:26:36

John,
I am finally able to connect and see this months images. As you know I have been traveling.
I thought i saw two gulls with one in the reflection just above and slightly to the left of the actual gull. However, on a more careful inspection I see only one gull that is not in the reflectionbut just outside on the right. I enjoy seeing the image and your compositon but agree a crop might enhance this image, perhaps even a square. Susan   Posted: 11/18/2024 20:53:31

Hello John. Wonderful reflection that leads the eye through the image. Reflections are one of my favorite subjects. As Peter suggested, perhaps cropping so that the bird in near the thirds would be helpful.   Posted: 11/19/2024 00:07:11
