About the Image(s)
my image for July, it is called Coates Creek School. I took this picture near Grand Junction Colorado several years ago, and it was shot as iso 100, f/16, 1/200, and 32mm focal length. Adjustments and b+w conversion done in Photoshop Elements.

I think you have chosen your composition very well. I'm glad you have chosen the swing as you have as it completes the story. Adjusting the blacks/whites would I think, improve the image. Have you considered adjusting the light? Perhaps a slight radial gradient on your subject building? I lived in Grand Junction briefly. This brings back memories of the region.   Posted: 07/09/2024 23:39:29
Thanks Dorinda. I positioned the swing in the foreground as I wanted to give the image a sense of abandonment and desolation. As far as the bw conversion I played around alot with the various sliders and this looked best to me but yeah I suppose there is room for improvement.   Posted: 07/10/2024 12:45:15
That looks really good.   Posted: 07/11/2024 00:35:10
I should add, that if you could remove the white on the door on the left, it might further improve the image. At first I thought it was writing, but I think it is just chipped paint. Glad you like my sample.   Posted: 07/11/2024 00:41:49
I like the chipped paint, it shows the age of the building.   Posted: 07/11/2024 00:47:44
I like Dorinda version. There are lesser highlights from the sky.
The original image is well focused though. With the swing in the foreground, it does improve the composition.   Posted: 07/15/2024 10:27:29

I prefer it with the swing and think it loses something without it. I deliberately framed the swing in the foreground to give the image a sense of abandonment. However, I understand that everyone has different aesthetic tastes.

Without the swing, I think it loses the story.   Posted: 07/16/2024 18:47:33
Me too.   Posted: 07/17/2024 12:42:43
I love old buildings and this one is a great one. I think the swing in the foreground adds both to the building's story and also provides a needed depth of field. Excellent work, Mark!   Posted: 07/19/2024 16:44:08

I like this one, the subject and composition are good and B&W fits the storyline. I agree with the others about the swing its the anchor for the story.
Dorinda's edit does improve the sky detail

nice sharp image I agree with the others that the swing helps make the image I like Dorinda's treatment since it brings out the clouds   Posted: 07/25/2024 19:07:39
