October 2026 - Great Blue Heron

I photographed this great blue heron on September 30th. I stopped at a park after visiting my mother at her acute rehab facility. This great blue heron caught my eye because he was so still in the river. I cropped, increased the blur on the background, slightly increased the contrast and sharpness. Very open to other suggestions for editing this photo.
I used an Olympus OM1 with a 40-150mm lens. Handheld ISO 4000 F2.8 mm S1/2000

Ellen I think you did a very good job with this image. I like the color balance between the rosy reflections in the background and the bird reflection in the foreground. My only nitpik would be that I would like to see more detail in the feathers. Still a good shot of the heron. Posted: 10/05/2026 23:04:16
I agree there should be more detail in the feathers. I was far away from the heron and cropped this photo but it is a good goal for me to see if my future heron photos have more feather detail. Posted: 10/06/2026 01:08:02
