About the Image(s)
Several years ago I had the pleasure of traveling through Wales with my English son-in-law as a guide. Chirk Castle, built in the 1200's was one of the places we visited. I liked the way this re-enactor was taking a moment to look out the window. I'm including the original as well as a bw version. When I took this I was still quite new at photography, and so greatly underexposed the original.

Sounds like a fun place to photograph, lots of " oh that's cool" moments. The original was very dark but a useable image for sure. The highlights are good and the re-enactor has some nice shadowing. I like the feel of the B&W the sharpness works but is starting to a little too sharp in spots. The color image has a nice crop and the person has good color. I like the soft feel of color one. Nice save.
Just for fun, here is my take one your photo. I was looking for a period feel with the color and noise blur.   Posted: 07/02/2025 22:45:52

I prefer the black and white shot as I feel it fits more with the period that the photograph evokes.   Posted: 07/04/2025 16:12:40
Now I'm wondering if a more sepia look would work? I'm still having computer issues so will have to wait until I can try it.   Posted: 07/06/2025 01:26:47
I prefer the B&W version as it provided the mood of the environment better.   Posted: 07/06/2025 14:47:24
I like this image a lot. I'm always surprised at how much detail and color I can pull out of raw images--both in the light and dark areas. In this case, I think your "final" image would benefit from toning down the highlights and brightening up the darker areas. Jody's edit seems to have done some of that. The folds in the skirt, the cap, and the sweater have very nice texture and color, so my preference is for the color version. I like the olden times feel of the image a lot, but the eyeglasses and the photos on the windowsill definitely do not belong to that bygone era!   Posted: 07/09/2025 05:58:15
Thank you for your comments, Patrick. I wondered about removing the photos on the window ledge. Will try that as well as your other suggestions.   Posted: 07/09/2025 16:19:32
