About the Image(s)

Not sure of the correct identification so I’ll just call it a "Red Dragon" for now.
Taken with an 5d mk iv, 100-400 zoom with 1.4 teleconverter for a focal length of 560mm, f8 , 1/640 , iso 200. I like using this lens combo, lots of zoom and a very short minimum focal distance if needed. Brightened the image and adjusted the vibrance, looking for a bright, almost high-key feel. Cropped the original down and add a radial blur vignette.
SOOC jpg image is included.

I like it but feel you could crop it closer, as I feel there is a little too much negative space.   Posted: 07/04/2025 16:18:03

thanks Mark, I agree that it could be tighter but couldn't decide on one I liked.   Posted: 07/04/2025 20:30:27

I was thinking maybe a vertical crop would work.   Posted: 07/04/2025 20:33:47

Yes I think this looks better as it eliminates some of that negative space.   Posted: 07/04/2025 22:38:59

This composition is better. The insect is well focused.   Posted: 07/06/2025 15:12:23

First, thank you for including the original. I think it often helps to see the starting place. Beautiful detail in the wings. I like the way the stem seems to just disappear into the blurred background. I do like the vertical crop but think I would like it better without the grass head (?) at the top.   Posted: 07/06/2025 01:42:50

Nicely done, Jody! The entire dragonfly is in focus. The complmentary colors and and the blurred background are nicely done. I like the vertical crop better too, but I also think you could crop some of the top and bottom to a 4 x 5 or even 1 x 1 aspect ratio.   Posted: 07/09/2025 06:30:46

I like the "portrait format" as cropping. I would like to enhance little more the pattern of wings.   Posted: 07/10/2025 05:43:52

Good picture, definitely crop a little closure on the left side and added a little of background on the right.   Posted: 07/10/2025 16:58:50
